WORKFLOW DESIGN / INTRODUCTION

Designing Reliable Payout Systems

Distinguish readiness, an instruction, and a confirmed outcome.

Readiness is a decision

Before a payout workflow begins, the marketplace needs a clear view of its completion criteria and any unresolved exceptions. Those criteria belong in an explicit process.

An instruction is not an outcome

A submitted instruction can still be pending, fail, or require review. Keep provider-confirmed results separate from the fact that your application requested an action.

Make retries deliberate

If a request times out, repeating the operation without a stable identity can introduce ambiguity. Idempotency is one part of a broader approach that also includes reconciliation and exception review.
